Mercedes prepares for Madrid F1 challenge after Monza success

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has tempered expectations ahead of the upcoming Formula 1 race in Madrid, following the team’s dominant performance in Monza. After Kimi Antonelli secured his seventh career victory from 19th on the grid and George Russell finished second, Wolff noted that the new Madrid circuit presents a completely different challenge.

Wolff compared the characteristics of the Madrid track to Budapest and Zandvoort, predicting a much more competitive weekend where rivals are likely to challenge for the top positions. The team aims to quickly understand the requirements of the new street circuit to maximize performance from the first practice sessions.

Additionally, Mercedes is preparing to utilize the ADUO development mechanism. While the team previously indicated they would focus on testing rather than hardware changes, the Brixworth engine division is now working on a development package to be implemented before the end of the season. This upgrade may coincide with upcoming races in Azerbaijan, Malaysia, or Singapore, potentially involving engine component changes for George Russell.
