Mercedes renews CEAMSE waste agreement and settles debt

The Municipality of Mercedes has renewed its agreement with the Metropolitan Ecological Area Society State Coordination (CEAMSE) for the final disposal of urban waste. As part of the agreement, the municipality reached a settlement to settle a debt related to waste transport services covering the period from March 2023 to February 2025.

The negotiation, which involved the Province of Buenos Aires, reduced the original claim of 1.25 billion pesos—including capital and interest—to a final payment of 718,184,390 pesos. The settlement includes the elimination of previously claimed interest. The agreement was approved by the Honorable Deliberative Council with nine votes in favor and seven against.

According to Treasury Secretary David Valerga, the waste disposal agreement has been in place since 2015. The specific debt in question pertains to transport services that had been free since 2018 but became subject to charges following a change in conditions communicated to the municipality in October 2024.
