Mercedes warns of intense F1 development race due to immature rules

Mercedes technical director James Allison has characterized the current Formula 1 technical regulations as ‘immature,’ a factor driving an intense and rapid development arms race among competitors.

While Mercedes holds a significant lead in the Constructors' Championship, the team has noted a narrowing advantage as rivals like McLaren and Ferrari implement aggressive upgrade packages. Allison reported that aerodynamic gains in the wind tunnel are currently six to seven times higher than in the previous season, with teams finding roughly half a second of lap time every two months.

Despite the championship cushion, the team expressed frustration over lost points due to reliability issues. Team principal Toto Wolff emphasized that the team must resolve these self-inflicted problems to remain competitive for the title. In the Drivers' Championship, Kimi Antonelli maintains a 50-point lead over Lewis Hamilton.
