Mercedes-AMG unveils updated GLE 63 S and GLS 63 SUVs with new flat‑plane V8
Mercedes‑AMG announced the launch of the high‑performance GLE 63 S and GLS 63 sport‑utility vehicles. Both models are equipped with an updated 4.0‑litre twin‑turbo V8 (M177 EVO) that uses a flat‑plane crankshaft and a 48‑volt mild‑hybrid system, delivering 450 kW (612 hp) and 850 Nm of torque, with an extra 17 kW from the hybrid boost. The powertrain enables 0‑100 km/h in 3.9 seconds for the GLE 63 S and 4.2 seconds for the GLS 63, with a limited top speed of 280 km/h.
The SUVs receive AMG‑specific exterior revisions – a panamericana grille, exclusive wheels, revised bumpers and lighting signatures – as well as interior upgrades such as the AMG Performance steering wheel, carbon‑style trim and the MB.OS infotainment system with digital superscreen displays. Mechanical enhancements include AMG Ride Control+ adaptive air suspension, a rear‑locking differential, and an active‑valve exhaust that varies sound according to driving mode. Pricing and market‑specific specifications have not yet been disclosed; the models are slated for release in 2026.
