Mercedes‑Benz AMG GT EV set to rival Jaguar Type 01 in high‑performance electric segment

Mercedes‑Benz’s AMG division has unveiled an all‑electric four‑door GT Coupé, positioning it as a direct competitor to Jaguar’s forthcoming Type 01 high‑performance electric GT. The AMG GT EV joins other premium electric models such as the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT and the Tesla Model S Plaid, but unlike those broader‑range offerings, it comes from a brand historically focused on limited‑run, ultra‑luxury performance cars. Jaguar’s Type 01 is expected to feature a large body with a compact interior, a long bonnet and strong performance credentials, echoing Jaguar’s traditional grand‑tourer language while shifting to full electric power. Both manufacturers aim to capture the growing market for luxury, high‑speed electric sedans, with design language and brand heritage influencing how they differentiate their products.

Analysts note that while the AMG GT EV does not represent a radical departure in AMG’s product strategy, its electric drivetrain marks a significant shift for the marque, and the rival Jaguar project signals a broader industry move toward electrified flagship models.
