Mercedes‑Benz eArocs 400 off‑road test showcases EV power as Audi e‑tron GT proves Romanian charging viability

Mercedes‑Benz tested its fully electric construction truck, the eArocs 400 8×4, on a demanding off‑road course at the brand’s Offroad Experience in Stockstadt am Rhein, Germany. The vehicle’s instant maximum torque allowed it to ascend steep hills smoothly, while regenerative braking recovered energy on descents. The trial also demonstrated auxiliary technologies such as the Turbo Retarder Clutch and the Hydraulic Auxiliary Drive, which provided extra traction on muddy terrain.

Separately, a Dutch driver took an Audi e‑tron GT on Romania’s famed Transfăgărășan mountain pass. Using the Chargemap app, he found fast‑charging stations abundant on highways and increasingly present in smaller towns, making long‑distance electric travel in the country practical despite the limited motorway network. Modern EVs with sizable batteries could cover the routes without significant range anxiety.
