Mercedes‑Benz launches new S‑Class in Japan

Mercedes‑Benz Japan began taking reservations for the new flagship S‑Class on 11 June. The first model offered is the S 450 d 4MATIC, priced at ¥15.98 million, with deliveries expected from September. A second version, the S 580 4MATIC Long, is awaiting formal approval and will be introduced later in the year.

More than half of the vehicle’s 2,700 components have been newly developed or redesigned, marking a major facelift rather than a full model change. Exterior updates include a roughly 20 % larger radiator grille, an illuminated radiator grille, and a new star‑pattern chrome louver. Inside, the cabin features a dual‑screen MBUX Super‑Screen (14.4‑inch central display plus 12.3‑inch passenger screen), heated‑seat‑belt integration, and upgraded materials such as walnut‑fluted wood trim.

The powertrain options comprise a new six‑cylinder clean‑diesel engine for the S 450 d and an eight‑cylinder gasoline unit for the S 580, both equipped with integrated starter‑generators and over‑the‑air software update capability via the new MB.OS platform.
