Merck Italia launches oncology communication tour in Rome
The “Il senso delle parole” tour, promoted by Merck Italia, has launched its first stage in Rome at the Istituto Nazionale Tumori Regina Elena to raise awareness about urothelial and bladder cancers. The initiative focuses on the importance of effective communication and listening in oncology, using a giant crossword puzzle as a tool for experts, patients, and volunteers to share information and emotional needs.
Bladder cancer is the second most common urological cancer after prostate cancer. In Italy, 31,016 cases were diagnosed in 2024. The disease is most prevalent among individuals aged 60 to 70 and is nearly four times more frequent in men than in women, though incidence is rising among women. Smoking remains the primary risk factor, and urothelial carcinoma accounts for over 90% of cases.
