Mercoin launches automatic cryptocurrency purchases using Mercari points

Mercoin, a subsidiary of the Japanese marketplace operator Mercari, has launched a ‘Point Management’ feature that allows users to automatically purchase cryptocurrency using earned Mercari points.

Starting September 15, 2026, any free Mercari points awarded to a user after enabling the setting will be automatically converted into Bitcoin (BTC) or Ethereum (ETH) at a rate of 1 point per yen. If a user selects both assets, the points are split equally between them, with any remaining fractions applied to Bitcoin.

While the service does not charge a usage fee, the transaction prices include a spread, which acts as a transaction cost. The feature is specifically limited to free points; it does not utilize paid points, d-points, sales balances, or funds from bank accounts. Mercoin plans to expand the range of supported cryptocurrencies in the future.
