Mercosul implements digital customs rules for road freight

Road freight transport between Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile is undergoing a structural shift toward digital customs clearance within the Mercosul region. The transition involves moving away from paper-based documents, such as the International Road Transport Knowledge (CRT) and the International Cargo Manifesto/Customs Transit Declaration (MIC/DTA), toward electronic manifestation via the CCT module of the Single Portal of Foreign Trade.

Under the new process led by the Receita Federal and the Secretariat of Foreign Trade, the Import Declaration (DI) for land and road modes is scheduled for definitive decommissioning by December 1, 2026. This will be replaced by the Single Import Declaration (DUIMP), which links the import operation to the final delivery at the destination.

Additionally, the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) has revised regulations for International Road Freight Transport (TRIC), consolidating requirements for licensing, qualification, and mandatory insurance for each country. Logistics companies, such as Transmaas Logística Internacional, are currently adjusting internal processes to comply with these heightened data precision requirements and technological integration.
