MERCOSUR Parliament rejects remarks by Argentine President Milei

The MERCOSUR Parliament (PARLASUR) has approved a declaration by a wide majority, supported by lawmakers from Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and Paraguay, repudiating public comments made by Argentine President Javier Milei.

The declaration specifically addresses Milei’s remarks against Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Supreme Federal Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes. The resolution asserts that such expressions contradict the principles of institutional respect, democratic coexistence, and cooperation essential to regional integration.

Furthermore, the text reaffirms PARLASUR’s commitment to sovereignty, the rule of law, and the principle of non-interference in the internal political and judicial affairs of member states. The move follows criticisms regarding the involvement of Argentine government officials in political activities within Brazil, which the parliament deemed incompatible with the spirit of MERCOSUR.
