Argentina agricultural exports to EU rise under Mercosur deal
Following the implementation of the temporary EU-Mercosur trade agreement on May 1, 2026, Argentina has seen a significant surge in agricultural exports to the European Union. According to data from the Argentine Ministry of Economy, the total value of agro-industrial exports to the EU rose by 21% between May and August compared to the average of 2023–2025. For products benefiting directly from tariff reductions, the value increased by 44%.
Key growth areas include fish exports, which rose by 93%, citrus fruits by 59%, and beef by 50%. The increase in beef exports is partly attributed to the absence of Brazilian competition due to restrictions on illegal growth promoters.
In Poland, the impact on specific sectors has been mixed. The Polish Ministry of Agriculture reported that imports of key agricultural products did not see a general increase during the first four months. Specifically, the value of poultry imports fell by 83%, and corn imports decreased by 23%. Beef imports to Poland also saw a decline in value, dropping from approximately 6.1 million PLN to nearly 2.2 million PLN during the period.
