Mercuria Energy Group acquires Raízen Argentina's downstream assets
Raízen Argentina has finalized the sale of its local downstream operations to companies controlled by Mercuria Energy Group for US$1.42 billion. The transaction includes the Dock Sud refinery, a lubricants plant, fuel terminals, aviation supply facilities, and a network of 894 Shell-branded service stations.
The new ownership structure consists of Mercuria Energy Group holding a 60% stake, with José Luis Manzano and Edenor each holding a 20% stake. The deal was executed through Latam Downstream Holdings and Silver Projects.
Despite the change in ownership, Shell will continue to use its brand license for the refining, marketing, and distribution of fuels and lubricants in Argentina. For Raízen, the sale is part of a broader strategy to reduce debt and reorganize its global portfolio.
