Brazilian researcher identifies eight potentially habitable exoplanets
A Brazilian researcher, Fábio Calabrio Evangelista da Silva, has identified eight exoplanets that show significant potential for supporting life. Working under the guidance of Professor Marcelo Borges Fernandes at the Observatório Nacional, Silva analyzed data from over 6,000 exoplanets cataloged by NASA.
The selection process focused on planets with a radius and density similar to Earth that are located within the ‘Goldilocks Zone’, or habitability zone. This region allows for temperatures that could support liquid water on a planet's surface.
The most notable candidate is GJ 1002b, which is located 16 light-years away. According to the research, this exoplanet shares a 98% similarity with Earth. It orbits a red dwarf star and completes a full orbit in approximately 10.3 days.
