Mercy Ships delivers free medical procedures in Ghana
The hospital ship Global Mercy has arrived at the Port of Tema to begin a medical mission in Ghana. Expected to remain in the country until June 2027, the vessel will provide free specialized surgical and dental procedures to thousands of patients.
Mercy Ships aims to perform between approximately 1,950 and 2,600 free surgeries and between 1,610 and 2,145 dental treatments during this period. To ensure the program reaches those in need, a nationwide registration and selection process will be implemented to identify patients whose conditions fall within the scope of the mission.
The initiative is a partnership between the Government of Ghana and Mercy Ships, intended to provide benefits beyond immediate clinical care. The collaboration includes opportunities for training and professional mentoring for Ghanaian healthcare professionals, aiming to create a lasting impact on the nation's health sector.
