Merg Yaylası in Turkey draws local and foreign nature lovers

Merg Yaylası, situated at roughly 3,000 m on the slopes of the Munzur Mountains between Erzincan and Tunceli, has become a popular destination for both Turkish and overseas outdoor enthusiasts. The meadow hosts around 1,000 plant species and a rich fauna including protected alpine ibex, wild goats, brown bears, lynx, wolves, foxes and a variety of game birds.

Visitors are attracted by the combination of snow‑capped peaks, colorful wildflowers, clear streams and the nearby glacial Green Lake. The area is used for trekking, camping and photography, with some routes requiring a ten‑hour round‑trip hike. Social‑media posts have highlighted the region as a "hidden paradise" and have spurred increasing numbers of hikers and photographers during the flowering season.
