Meriç River search continues for missing 12-year-old Iraqi child
Search operations continue for the sixth day to locate a 12-year-old Iraqi child missing after a boat capsized in the Meriç River near Edirne, Turkey. The incident occurred near the NATO Bridge in Bosnaköy as a five-person family from Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, attempted to cross into Greece illegally.
Two children from the family have already been confirmed dead: a 10-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl. While the parents and one child managed to reach an island and survive, the others were swept away by the current.
Rescue efforts involve AFAD teams using zodiac boats, gendarmerie units searching from the banks, and specialized divers from Çanakkale, İzmir, and Tekirdağ. Authorities are also utilizing drones to assist in the search for the missing child, Hastyar Harem Mohammed.
