Merida, Venezuela, paves Los Próceres avenue while Mexican study flags asphalt decay in Zapotlán

Mayor Nelson Álvarez of Libertador municipality in Merida, Venezuela, oversaw the paving of the main Los Próceres avenue. The project applied about 196 tonnes of asphalt over a 7‑kilometre stretch, targeting key service corridors and commercial areas as part of a broader urban renewal plan following recent seismic activity.

In Zapotlán el Grande, Jalisco, Mexico, a municipal infrastructure study examined roughly 350 km of streets. It found that asphalt‑paved roads received the lowest condition score (59 points) compared with concrete, cobblestone and earth roads, indicating the greatest need for repair. The report recommends increased and sustained investment in road maintenance to improve mobility and reduce vehicle wear.
