Meridiam joins Great Sea Interconnector project

The entry of the French company Meridiam into the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI) project is expected to significantly alter the economic, technical, and geopolitical landscape of the electrical interconnection between Greece, Cyprus, and Israel.

According to Cypriot government spokesperson Konstantinos Letympiotis, the French participation strengthens the diplomatic influence of Greece and Cyprus. This development follows direct communication between leaders Kyriakos Mitsotakis of Greece, Nikos Christodoulides of Cyprus, and Emmanuel Macron of France to coordinate the project at the highest political level.

The involvement of Meridiam is viewed not merely as an investment but as part of a broader political agreement with Paris. This presence is expected to mitigate potential interference from Turkey, as the project now involves direct French economic interests and high-level political alignment.
