Meridian City Council approves FY 2027 budget

The Meridian City Council has approved the fiscal year 2027 budget for the period spanning October 1, 2026, to September 30, 2027. The measure passed with a 4-1 vote.

During the approval process, Council Member Dwayne Davis proposed reducing the budget from $56,726,426 to $51,819,371, arguing that the lower figure represents the city’s anticipated actual revenue. The motion failed due to a lack of a second. Davis expressed concerns regarding the use of approximately $5 million from the city’s fund balance to cover the gap between anticipated revenue and proposed expenditures.

According to the budget provided by Chief Financial Officer Brandye Latimer, total anticipated revenues in the general fund are $58,825,529. This includes $19,000,000 from ad valorem tax revenues and $5,006,158 from the anticipated cash balance. Expenditures for the general fund are also projected at $58,825,529, with allocations for general government, finance and records, and community development.
