The Meritta Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Center, a social responsibility project of Merit International Hotels, has released six green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas) back into the Mediterranean Sea. The turtles, aged between 1 and 5 years, were rescued after becoming entangled in fishing nets and struggling to reach the surface.

The release event took place on the shared beach of the Merit Royal and Merit Crystal Cove hotels. Attendees included Nilden Bektaş Erhürman, the wife of President Tufan Erhürman, along with local fishermen, hotel guests, and members of the press.

Since beginning operations on May 10, 2018, the center has provided care and treatment for a total of 265 sea turtles. Of these, 227 have been successfully returned to their natural habitats. During the 2026 season alone, 31 turtles have been released into the sea.
