Mersin animal rights advocates demand investigation into home intervention
Animal rights advocates are calling for an investigation following a police and municipal intervention at a residence in the Yenişehir district of Mersin, where cats were kept. Ayhan Demir, a founding member of the Parlayan Kalpler Association, has raised concerns regarding the legal basis for entering the home using a locksmith and the potential violation of constitutional rights regarding privacy and the sanctity of the home.
Demir argued that a mere report should not be sufficient grounds for such an intervention without a concrete, objective assessment of the animals' living conditions and health. He also emphasized the need to investigate whether proper communication was established with the foreign national family involved, specifically regarding the provision of an interpreter to ensure they understood their rights and the nature of the proceedings.
