Mersin architect establishes home woodworking studio after vocational training
Muazzez Aykurt Aydın, an architect who paused her career for ten years following the birth of her daughter, has established a home-based woodworking workshop in Mersin. After participating in the Furniture Manufacturing and Assembly Course offered by the MERCEK Vocational Training Centers under the Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, Aydın successfully obtained a Level 4 Certificate from the Vocational Qualifications Authority (MYK).
The MERCEK program provides free vocational training to support citizens, with a specific focus on increasing women's participation in the workforce and economic life. The furniture course covers all stages of production, from project design and measurement to cutting and assembly.
Aydın now operates her business, 'Muzo Studio', from a section of her home in the Çağdaşkent neighborhood, selling her products via Instagram. The municipality covers costs such as exam fees and occupational health and safety equipment for its trainees.
