Mersin begins construction of new condolence and cultural center

A groundbreaking ceremony was held in the Emek neighborhood of the Akdeniz district in Mersin for the construction of the ‘Hacı Sabri Kaya Condolence House and Azize Kaya Cultural House’. The three-story facility will cover a total area of 1,367 square meters and is designed to serve as both a condolence center and a venue for social and cultural activities.

The project is a collaborative effort involving the Akdeniz Municipality, the Mersin Governor's Office, and philanthropist businessman Hikmet Kaya, who is covering the construction costs. The facility is named in honor of Kaya's parents.

During the ceremony, Akdeniz Deputy Mayor Murat Beşikci noted that the project was initiated in response to requests from local residents. The site was allocated by the National Estate Directorate specifically for religious and condolence purposes. The project is expected to be completed and opened to the public by September 8, 2027.
