Mersin city ramps up hotel fire safety and consumer‑goods inspections

Mersin fire department units have intensified fire‑safety checks at hotels across the city, examining fire‑pump rooms, smoke‑detector panels, kitchen exhaust systems, fire stairs and extinguishing equipment. The inspections follow a 2025 directive issued after the Bolu Kartalkaya hotel fire and aim to ensure compliance with the national building‑fire protection regulation.

From 1 – 30 June 2026, consumer‑protection officers inspected 1,287 businesses in Mersin under the Turkish Consumer Protection Law. A total of 93,527 products were reviewed, and firms found in violation were fined an aggregate of 329,759 Turkish lira for issues such as price‑label mismatches and unlawful price increases.
