Mersin companion house hosts 6,500 patients and relatives

The Mersin Metropolitan Municipality's companion house has hosted 6,500 patients and their relatives since it began operations in 2021. The facility provides free accommodation for citizens traveling from distant districts to receive treatment at public or university hospitals in the city center.

In addition to lodging in private rooms equipped with television, internet, and refrigerators, guests receive free breakfast, dinner, hospital shuttle services, and psychosocial support. The program aims to reduce the financial burden on families undergoing long-term medical treatments.

Accommodation durations are tiered based on medical needs: oncology patients and their companions are eligible for up to 45 days of free stay, while other patients receiving outpatient or inpatient care are eligible for 30 days. These periods may be extended if treatment continues. Applications can be submitted through the Alo 185 Teksin line, requiring a Turkish ID, proof of residence, and hospital documentation.
