Mersin entrepreneur expands lavender business into value-added products

In the Gülnar district of Mersin, entrepreneur Fatma Can has expanded her lavender cultivation into a diverse production business known as ‘Duru Lavanta Köyü’. Beyond growing lavender, the enterprise produces value-added goods including lavender oil, soap, jam, and even lavender-flavored ice cream.

The business has become a point of interest for both domestic and international visitors. This growth has been supported by the Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, specifically through its Women and Family Services Department. The municipality provides training in areas such as entrepreneurship, e-commerce, social media management, and packaging to help women strengthen their economic standing.

Additionally, the Mersinden Kadın Kooperatifi (Mersin Women's Cooperative) plays a key role in the business's sustainability by facilitating regular orders and providing access to wider markets, including cooperative stores.
