Mersin Fire Department Handles Over 8,000 Calls in First Half of 2026

The Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Fire Directorate reported that its units responded to a total of 8,037 emergencies between January and June 2026. The incidents broke down into 2,971 fires, 649 traffic accidents, 362 flood events, 3,537 rescue operations and 493 other urgent situations. Personnel reached 1,479 citizens and 2,058 animals, delivering medical aid and evacuations.

On average the department arrived at a scene within five minutes, handling roughly 44 calls per day or two per hour. In addition to emergency response, fire‑prevention activities included 3,059 fire‑prevention actions and 303 training sessions that reached 29,119 residents, schoolchildren, public‑service workers and industry staff. Fire officials warned the public to avoid open burning, careless cigarette disposal and unattended campfires during the hot summer months. "We continue to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to protect lives and property," Fire Directorate head Emre Elçi said.
