Mersin food businesses flagged for meat and spice adulteration

The Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has updated its list of fraudulent and adulterated food products following recent inspections. The updated report, dated September 23, 2026, identifies three specific businesses in Mersin involved in food fraud.

In the Akdeniz district, Korkmaz Kasabı-Hadi Kaçan was found to have sold raw red meat mince containing meat from single-hoofed animals, such as horses or donkeys. In the Mezitli district, Erçolak Gıda Hayvancılık Sanayi ve Ticaret Limited Şirketi (Mezitli Et Balık) was found to have mixed offal into its beef-lamb mixed mince products.

Additionally, the inspection identified issues in the spice category. A sumac product sold under the Değirmen Tarsus brand in the Tarsus district was found to contain dyes that are not permitted for use in food products.
