Turkey advances high-speed rail and highway infrastructure projects
Turkey is advancing several major transportation infrastructure projects. The Yerköy-Kayseri High-Speed Train (YHT) project has surpassed 50% physical progress. This 142-kilometer, double-track, electric line is designed for speeds of 250 km/h and will integrate with the Ankara-Sivas line. Once completed, the travel time between Ankara and Kayseri is expected to drop to 1 hour and 45 minutes. The project includes five stations and is projected to carry 5.5 million passengers and 13.5 million tons of freight annually, strengthening the Middle Corridor trade route.
In Mersin, the Çeşmeli-Kızkalesi section of the Çeşmeli-Erdemli-Silifke-Taşucu Highway is set to open to traffic on the night of October 18-19. The 52-kilometer project, which includes 7 tunnels and 10 interchanges, aims to reduce travel times from 2.5 hours to just 18 minutes during summer months. The highway is expected to provide significant economic savings in fuel and time, while reducing carbon emissions.
Additionally, Adana is moving forward with its second stage of the Light Rail System (Metro) project, which has been included in the 2024 Investment Program with an 11.2 billion TL budget. In Konya, Karatay Municipality is conducting extensive road renewal and asphalt works to improve urban transit quality.
