Turkish municipalities launch child-focused social and recreational projects
Municipalities in Turkey are implementing various social projects aimed at improving recreational facilities and cultural access for children.
In Mersin, the Akdeniz Municipality is conducting extensive maintenance and renovation of parks and green spaces. These efforts include replacing rubber flooring in playgrounds at Evci, Yasemin, and Üçgen parks to enhance safety, as well as upgrading sports equipment, seating areas, lighting, and signage across several neighborhoods. Additionally, Mersin Metropolitan Municipality has organized cultural festivals in rural areas like Tekke Village, providing children with theater performances, face painting, and interactive activities.
In Trabzon, the Ortahisar Municipality has launched the ‘Mahallemde Oyun Var’ (Play in My Neighborhood) project, which received grant support from the Union of Municipalities of Turkey. The initiative features a Mobile Child Life and Activity Center consisting of vehicles and inflatable playgrounds designed to bring recreational opportunities to children in rural neighborhoods and schoolyards, ensuring more equitable access to play areas.
