Mersin Municipality provides support to 18,000 newborn babies
The Mersin Metropolitan Municipality's Social Services Department is providing free essential supplies to low-income families through its ‘Hoş Geldin Bebek’ (Welcome Baby) project. The initiative aims to alleviate the economic burden on family budgets during the first days of a newborn's life.
Operating across 13 districts, the project has distributed 18,000 support packages to date. Each package, organized as a baby care bag for infants aged 0-1 month, contains items such as diapers, clothing sets, bottles, care kits, muslin cloths, wet wipes, shampoo, towels, and soap powder. Families can collect these kits from 28 designated delivery points throughout Mersin.
The municipality's support for mothers and children begins during pregnancy with the ‘Hamile Bakım Sütü’ (Pregnant Care Milk) support and continues through the postnatal period with this newborn assistance program.
