Mersin opens new multi-level junction to ease heavy vehicle traffic

The Mersin Metropolitan Municipality has inaugurated the Hal Katlı Kavşağı (Hal Multi-level Junction) project, designed to alleviate traffic congestion in the city. The project, which is described as the largest multi-level junction built by the municipality to date, covers a total of 3,750 meters, with 2 kilometers featuring a renovated bridge junction.

The infrastructure improvement specifically targets areas with high volumes of heavy-duty vehicles, such as trucks and lorries, which previously caused significant delays near the local market (hal) and truck garages. By separating main traffic flows, vehicles coming from the 2nd Ring Road can now bypass the junction, reducing wait times.

Local merchants have reported significant improvements in logistics. Fikret Yıldırım, a merchant with 33 years of experience at the market, noted that before the project, it could take up to thirty minutes just to exit the market gates, but the new junction has greatly eased these delays.
