Mersin sees spate of violent attacks: site chairman shot, child beaten, elderly man assaulted
In Erdemli, Mersin, Murat Özbolat, the board chairman of a holiday site, was shot in both legs by a masked attacker wearing a helmet and gloves. The assault was captured on security cameras and police, after reviewing 380 hours of footage from 114 cameras, identified the 47‑year‑old suspect A. Y. and arrested him in a coordinated operation at three addresses.
In Barış neighbourhood, an 11‑year‑old boy identified as M. A. D was violently attacked inside a market. He suffered injuries to his head and jaw and is being treated at Mersin University Hospital. Police detained the alleged attacker, identified as M. E., and handed the case to the prosecutor.
In the same district, 80‑year‑old Hasan Hüseyin Belen was assaulted in his garden when a helmeted, gloved assailant attempted to break his neck and repeatedly kicked his head.
