Mersin police fine 184 vehicles for occupying disabled ramps and sidewalks
Mersin police carried out a large‑scale traffic inspection targeting vehicles that blocked disabled ramps, pedestrian crossings and sidewalks. The operation resulted in fines for 184 vehicles totalling 313,992 Turkish lira, and one vehicle was immobilised and towed.
The Traffic Inspection Unit of the Mersin Provincial Police acted on images posted on social media and complaints from citizens. Under the 2918 Highway Traffic Law, 68 drivers were penalised for parking in spaces reserved for disabled persons, 20 drivers for parking on sidewalks, and an additional 96 drivers faced penalties for other illegal parking violations. The enforcement aims to raise public awareness and protect the rights of people with disabilities.
