Turkey police dismantle 116 million TL modem fraud ring
Police in Turkey have launched a large-scale operation against a fraud ring that allegedly swindled 801 people out of approximately 116 million TL. The scheme, centered in Eskişehir, involved suspects posing as representatives of major internet and communication companies.
According to investigators, the suspects falsely claimed that the country's internet infrastructure was changing and that existing modems would soon become obsolete. They pressured citizens into purchasing new, incompatible modems via cash-on-delivery, promising internet bill discounts that never materialized.
Simultaneous raids were conducted across 19 provinces, including Istanbul, Ankara, and Bursa. Authorities have detained 90 suspects, including company executives, and have seized assets valued at 43.5 million TL.
