Mersin science center completes summer school for 587 children

The Mercan 100. Yıl Climate and Environment Science Center in Mersin has concluded its summer school program, which hosted 587 children. Operated by the Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, the center is Turkey’s first science center dedicated to climate and environmental themes. Participants engaged in various workshops, including astronomy, marine sciences, robotics, and climate innovation, to foster scientific thinking and environmental awareness.

In a separate educational initiative in Mersin’s Yenişehir district, teachers have developed a specialized eight-book fairy tale series titled ‘Evvel Yeşil, Ahir Yeşil’. The project integrates Turkish cultural figures, such as Keloğlan and Nasreddin Hoca, into stories that address environmental issues like zero waste, water conservation, and biodiversity. The series is intended for use in classrooms and environmental awareness activities to help children understand their role in sustainability.
