Mersin walnut prices hit historic lows due to high yields
Walnut prices in Mersin and surrounding districts have reached historic lows due to a significant surplus in harvest yields. While food prices have been rising across Turkey, the abundance of walnuts has caused market prices to drop sharply.
At the start of the season, fresh and shelled walnuts were trading between 200 TL and 300 TL per kilogram. As the supply increased, prices fell to 200 TL and eventually reached 150 TL per kilogram. Local residents and retirees have expressed satisfaction with the price decrease, noting that it allows for stocking up on supplies for the winter despite general inflation.
