Merton Council approves 249 new social homes in Mitcham
Merton Council gave the green light to a development by Pollard Thomas Edwards and Clarion Housing Group that will deliver 249 new social‑rent homes in Mitcham town centre. The council voted seven in favour, two against and one abstention.
The scheme, called Majestic Way, will occupy just under one hectare on the former Morrisons site and will consist of six‑ and eleven‑storey blocks with one‑ to four‑bedroom units. After an initial ‘red’ rating in February 2025, a revised design earned an ‘amber towards green’ rating in June, aligning the architecture more closely with the local character. Clarion’s chief development officer Richard Cook said the project invests in Mitcham’s high street as well as providing new homes.
The development team includes BDP for public realm and landscape design, AECOM as MEP consultant and Lichfields as planning consultant.
