Meryl Streep to voice Aslan in Netflix Narnia reboot

Meryl Streep has been cast as the voice of Aslan in the upcoming Netflix adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia, titled “The Magician’s Nephew.” Directed by Greta Gerwig, the film serves as a prequel to the original series and explores the creation of the Narnia world.

Liam Neeson, who provided the voice for Aslan in the previous film trilogy released between 2005 and 2010, expressed surprise during a ScreenRant interview, noting he was unaware of the new production. Upon learning of Streep’s casting, Neeson offered his endorsement, jokingly remarking, “Well, if you’re gonna make Christ a lady, nobody better than Meryl,” in reference to the character’s Christian allegorical roots.

Director Greta Gerwig stated she sought an actor over the age of 70 who could convey profound authority, wisdom, and joy without being pretentious. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on February 12, 2027, followed by a streaming debut on Netflix on April 2, 2027.
