MESCyT announces 4,000 English scholarships for Dominican tourism

The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCyT) has announced 4,000 new English language scholarships aimed at strengthening the nation's tourism and hotel sectors. Minister Rafael Santos stated that 2,000 scholarships will be allocated to Asonahores and another 2,000 to developing tourism hubs to improve human talent and employability.

Data from MESCyT regarding the immersion English program between 2020 and 2025 shows a 49% graduation rate. Out of 145,774 scholarships granted during this period, 71,486 students successfully graduated. The lowest graduation rate occurred in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, when only 24.9% of scholarship recipients completed the program. However, excluding the pandemic year, the graduation rate for 2021–2025 rose to 53.8%. In 2025, the rate improved to 61.5%, with 16,616 graduates from 27,000 scholarship holders.
