Meshell Ndegeocello and Lianne La Havas release ‘Don’t Look Any Further’ cover

Meshell Ndegeocello and Lianne La Havas have released a modern funk reimagining of the 1984 Motown classic ‘Don’t Look Any Further’. The track, which features flute by Elena Pinderhughes, serves as a preview for Ndegeocello’s upcoming 15-track duets album, ‘Synonym’, scheduled for release on October 2 via Blue Note Records.

The original song by Dennis Edwards and Siedah Garrett is noted for its influential bassline, which has been sampled in hip-hop tracks by artists such as Eric B. & Rakim and 2Pac.

‘Synonym’ features a wide array of guest collaborators, including Chaka Khan, Cynthia Erivo, Cat Power, Brandi Carlile, and Robert Glasper. The album explores various musical eras and genres, ranging from 1960s folk and 1970s soul to early-2000s hip-hop, using familiar songs to examine themes of desire, heartbreak, and human connection.
