Meshell Ndegeocello's 'Synonym' Album Features Cat Power on Human League Cover

Singer‑bassist‑producer Meshell Ndegeocello is releasing her third Blue Note album, Synonym. The record reimagines classic songs as duets with a wide roster of guests, including Chaka Khan, Cynthia Erivo and many others. The second single, “Don’t You Want Me,” pairs Ndegeocello with Cat Power in a reggae‑grooved cover of The Human League’s 1980s synth‑pop hit. The album, available for pre‑order on colored vinyl, black vinyl, CD and digital download, also features a lead track that revisits George Michael and Aretha Franklin’s duet “I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me).” Production reunites Ndegeocello with David Gamson, who co‑produced her early Blue Note releases, and includes contributions from a rotating cast of instrumentalists. Ndegeocello describes the project as a celebration of classic songs, diverse genres and universal human experiences.
