MESS Festival features productions on sexual violence and migration

The 66th MESS International Theatre Festival in Sarajevo features several significant productions. Mila Rau and Servane Dècle present ‘The Pelicot Case’, a production based on the high-profile French legal case involving Gisèle Pelicot. The play uses a large ensemble of Bosnian actors to explore themes of sexual violence and societal responsibility through a staged judicial process.

Other scheduled performances include ‘Fall of Granada’ by the Dutch collective Hotel Modern at the Sarajevo War Theatre (SARTR), and ‘Safe Place – Journey to the Central Mediterranean’ at the National Theatre Sarajevo. The latter, produced by the Italian company Kepler-452, draws on real-life experiences of search and rescue missions in the Mediterranean to address migration and European values.
