MESS International Theatre Festival closes with ‘Deinos’ premiere

The 66th MESS International Theatre Festival concluded with the premiere of the contemporary dance performance ‘Deinos’. Created by Amila Terzimehić, the production was staged at Novo Teatar within the International Center for Games, Culture, Art, and Youth (ICIKUM) in Novo Sarajevo.

Produced by JU ICIKUM Novo Sarajevo in co-production with Dance MESS Company and Scena MESS, ‘Deinos’ uses movement to explore the body as a site of suppressed emotions, fear, and inherited trauma. The performance examines how experiences of violence are inscribed in the body and transmitted through collective memory, while also presenting the body as a space for resistance and transformation.

The production features a cast including Selma Alispahić, Iva Prgić, Matea Mavrak, Lara Musa, Mak Čengić, Ante Grizelj, and Tarik Osmanagić. The creative team includes dramaturg Emina Omerović, composer Hanan Hadžajlić, and scenographer Lejla Hodžić.
