Sicily wins six Grand Gold Medals at Mondial des Vins Extrêmes 2026

Sicily has achieved significant success at the 2026 Mondial des Vins Extrêmes, an international competition dedicated to wines produced under heroic viticulture conditions. The region secured six Grand Gold Medals, contributing to Italy’s total of 20 Grand Gold Medals at the event.

The awards highlight the diversity and quality of Sicilian viticulture, spanning from the slopes of Mount Etna to the islands of Pantelleria. Notable winners include the Etna Bianco DOC Sommer 2022 from La Rosa Isabella and the Passito di Pantelleria DOC Nes 2024 from Carlo Pellegrino & C.

The competition featured 1,175 wines from 432 companies representing 22 countries. Sicilian enologist Gianni Giardina also participated as a commission president. The results underscore the ability of the region to transform challenging environmental conditions, such as steep slopes and high altitudes, into high-value products.
