Messina authorities exhumate body in Melissa Echevarria homicide investigation

Authorities in Messina have ordered the exhumation of 40-year-old Argentine national Melissa Echevarria to conduct further medico-legal examinations. Her body was previously discovered in the courtyard of an abandoned house on via La Farina and subsequently buried in the Canneto cemetery in Lipari.

The investigation has taken a significant turn following a confession from a 44-year-old Tunisian man, who is currently in custody for prior offenses including domestic abuse and violating restraining orders. The man allegedly admitted to killing Echevarria by strangulation during an argument before abandoning her body at the site in Messina.

Investigators from the Squadra Mobile are working to corroborate this confession by reviewing local surveillance footage and gathering witness testimonies. The new forensic examinations aim to provide scientific evidence to confirm the details of the alleged murder and clarify the exact circumstances surrounding her death.
