Messina authorities initiate urgent hydraulic safety works

The Municipality of Messina has launched urgent interventions on the Annunziata stream to restore hydraulic safety and mitigate risks caused by previous construction interruptions and recent weather events. Mayor Federico Basile stated that the administration decided to proceed with a new independent contract rather than waiting for the resolution of legal disputes regarding the previous tender, prioritizing citizen safety and the prevention of potential hazards during rainfall.

Separately, local councilor Dario Carbone has raised urgent concerns regarding rainwater canalization works in the Ganzirri district. Carbone reported serious issues including improperly leveled metal grates fixed with cement, creating bumps in the road that may impede water flow. He also noted reports of vibrating sidewalks when buses pass, suggesting potential underground voids or structural failures that could pose risks to pedestrians and motorists.
