Pietro Ciucci, chief executive of Stretto di Messina S.p.A., announced that the goal is to move the Messina Bridge project into the construction phase before the end of the year. He said the next key milestone is the September review by the CIPESS committee, after which the company will submit full documentation covering technical, environmental, financial, expropriation and compensation aspects.

The firm is awaiting an opinion from the Consiglio superiore dei lavori pubblici in the coming days. At the same time, Stretto di Messina continues talks with European Union institutions on environmental matters, procurement rules and the contract‑price adjustment. The EU has confirmed that the contract price stays within the 50 % limit set by the relevant regulation.
