Messina building collapse: remains of Santino Magazzù identified
Authorities in Messina have identified the remains of Santino Magazzù, a retired railway worker, among the debris of a building collapse in the Pistunina district of via La Pira. The identification was confirmed by the Carabinieri's scientific investigation department through DNA comparison with family samples.
Magazzù's remains were found alongside those of Sara and Rosa Leone, whose bodies had been recovered previously. However, Lairu Warna-Kulasuriya, a Sri Lankan national who worked as a domestic collaborator for the Leone family, remains missing.
On the judicial front, investigators are analyzing data from the mobile phones of three suspects: entrepreneurs Pasquale D’Alì and Alessandro Panarello, and engineer Pietro Leone. The individuals face charges of multiple manslaughter, culpable disaster, and the fraudulent removal of workplace safety precautions. Technical assessments regarding the causes of the collapse are ongoing.
